Memo No. 056-23: Updated Approved Distance Education Curricula List
This memo provides notice that the Approved Distance Education Curricula for Virginia Adult Education and Literacy Programs has been updated as of January 24, 2023 and is available online through the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center.
The approved learning products are the only products allowable for reporting distance education proxy attendance hours for adult education students in Virginia. Products not on the approved list may be used to supplement instruction, but student hours spent using these supplementary materials may not be reported as distance education proxy hours.
New in this update is the addition of the Virtual Virginia online courses that are being piloted this spring for full use next program year. These flexible courses can be used as resources in class, to offer a full online learning experience, or in combination. Students assigned work to complete asynchronously in these courses are eligible for distance education hours. Instructors’ syllabi must be on file with the program office stating the planned use of the course and how many hours will be reported as synchronous and asynchronous. Refer to Memo #40-21 for links to tips on quality online teaching resources and a worksheet to calculate attendance.
New submissions for review by the Distance Education Review Panel must be submitted through the online form found here.
