Memo No. 055-23: Announcements in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education
Please join the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education in congratulating Dr. Beverly Godwin and welcoming Ms. Katie Irby as they move into new positions in their careers.
Dr. Beverly Godwin has accepted the offer of employment as the High School Equivalency (HSE) Specialist as of December 27, 2022. She will be the point of contact for HSE test, testing, testing voucher, and transcript questions, including questions regarding the National External Diploma Program (NEDP). Beverly is currently serving as the Adult Secondary and Individual Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) Program Specialist, and until that position is filled, she will continue to serve as the point of contact for the ISAEP and GED® Options programs.
Over the last seven years, Dr. Godwin has served the Virginia Department of Education as the Adult Secondary and ISAEP Programs Specialist in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education. She has over twenty years of experience in education, having served in various instructional and administrative roles on the local level, including vocational program specialist, career assessment and ISAEP coordinator, intervention specialist, outreach coordinator, and adult education administrator. Beverly attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in Mass Communications, a master’s degree in Adult Education and Human Resource Development, and a post-master’s certificate in Educational Leadership. Ms. Katie Irby has accepted the offer of employment as the Program Monitoring Specialist and began her service on January 10, 2023. She will serve as the point of contact for questions regarding program monitoring, technical assistance, and program improvement.
Ms. Irby earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Tech and her master’s degree in Education from Old Dominion University. In 2010 she began working for Southside Virginia Community College as a middle college and adult education instructor and then became lead instructor for Regions 13 and 14 in 2011. In 2013, Katie became the regional program manager for Region 14, which serves the counties of Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward.
