Memo No. 053-22: Extension of Approval of Tests Suitable for Use in the National Reporting System
This memo provides notice of the federal announcement of extension of approval of test suitable for use in the National Reporting System (NRS). The full announcement, listing approved forms and formats, is available in the Federal Register. The following tests are approved for the noted extended period for use by adult education programs in Virginia.
English as a Second Language (ESL) tests and test forms have been granted extended approval to February 2, 2024. These include:
(1) Basic English Skills Test (BEST) Literacy
(2) Basic English Skills Test (BEST) Plus 2.0
(3) Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) Life and Work Listening Assessments (LW Listening)
(4) Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) Reading Assessments (Life and Work)
(5) Tests of Adult Basic Education Complete Language Assessment System-English (TABE/CLAS-E)
The following adult basic education (ABE) test is approved for an additional extended period:
(1) Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) Math GOALS Series – approved through March 7, 2024
This memo updates the 2022-2023 Assessment and Distance Education Policy for Virginia Adult Education and Literacy Programs and should be distributed to all program staff involved in assessment.
