    • SPOTLIGHT is an exciting, statewide annual online publication that seeks to shine a light on adult education learners, their experiences, and their learning through the creative process. 

      The editorial team is currently seeking submissions from adult learners throughout Virginia for the second issue of SPOTLIGHT, which will publish in spring 2023. SPOTLIGHT strives to include a variety of original works that reflect the creative expression of Virginia’s diverse population of adult learners.

  • TODAY at 3p, Enhancing Access for Refugees and New Americans

    • The goal of this webinar is to disseminate strategies from the national webinar series on enhancing access for refugees and new Americans to the adult education programs in Virginia. During this presentation, participates will be able to learn about the EARN project and how those strategies can be applied to adult education services in the state of Virginia.

  • Next week:

    • Tuesday, December 6, IET & IELCE PLC, 12:30p - 2p

      • During this PLC, we will discuss challenges and solutions to IET & IELCE recruitment, partnerships, and instructional design. We'll also discuss how best to support IET/IELCE instructors in the spring through more targeted instructional PD.

    • Thursday, December 8, Serving Refugees Open Discussion, 12:30p - 1:30p

      • This event allows Virginia adult education practitioners the opportunity to get together to discuss and share what their programs have been doing to reach and serve refugees in their programs. This will also be a time where participants can share what additional support and resources they would like to see from VALRC to continue to effectively serve refugees.

    • New podcast! Learner Spotlight, Lygia Yates

      • In this podcast episode, VALRC ESOL Specialist Hali Massey, Senior Instructional Technology Specialist Katie Bratisax, and Literacy Specialist Elizabeth Severson-Irby talk with an adult education learner, the Director of the disAbility Law Center of Virginia (dLCV), and a career coach about working with learners with varying abilities. The adult education learner, Lygia, describes her journey back into education and her process for earning Microsoft Office certifications. Then, the Director of the dLCV, Colleen, describes the legal services they provide to individuals and families of individuals with differing abilities. Next, the career coach, Duane, describes how he assists learners in advocating for themselves as they connect with employers.
